Winter Family Nature Night for Vista Peak

Families showed up with smiles and excitement as the fun evening began at Vista Peak. A smiling face was waiting at the Welcome Table where Shalana was there to greet everyone with raffle tickets and information! Activities were spread through the school, and pizza was freshly waiting in the cafeteria. This provided fuel for the many activity stations available throughout the halls. We even had a special visitor from Great Outdoors Colorado in attendance to see all the great things Family Nature Night offers for our SOLE families!

Denver Botanic Gardens brought an entire planting activity, and anyone who wanted to could take home seed they planted that night! History Colorado had some rousing games of history bingo going on while many posed with state symbols for a photo opportunity.

Archery had some friendly family rivalries occurring during the night with children and parents both stepping up to see who was the better shot! Backyard Bass, located in the gym as well, gathered quite a following of students, some of whom could not even pull themselves away for pizza or raffles because of the fun to be had catching plastic fish!

Were you brave enough to touch the hissing cockroaches that the Butterfly Pavilion brought to Nature Night? Or the hermit crab? Or maybe you were busy trying to identify birds with Bird Conservancy of the Rockies. Many were fascinated by the owl skull and talons after peering through binoculars.

The raffle at 6 pm was highly anticipated. Students eagerly gripped their tickets, hoping to hear the winning number. Fishing poles and binoculars were a popular prize of the night, and lucky winners also received camping gear, and History Colorado Family Passes. The grand prize State Parks Gift Certificate was received by a very happy family eager to explore the parks in this beautiful state!

Barr Lake State Park was bustling with activity the entire evening, churning out t-shirts with hand-colored slogans reminding us of the importance of life jackets. Some even took selfies with their new swag!
